The Suzuki TL1000 was a bike that had many "characteristics ", not least of which was its tendency for the rear cylinder exhaust to heat up the rear shock sufficiently to vaporize the oil in the shock, causing an instant wipeout, as witnessed by my racing buddy who was behind one on track when this happened. I rode my rd400 from Downingtown Pa. to Tacoma WA. It never missed a beat. I ride a harley now, but the RD was more fun. And when I had a flat tire in Chicago, a cop went off duty and took me to an indy harley mechanic who threw a new tube in and told me to pay him when I get to McCord AFB. When I was a kid, the CB750 came to my local Zambian race track - then known as the "4-pipe" because it was the first 4 cyl ever seen in a bike - followed by the H1 which no one could ride at any speed around the track except down the straight. Both were creamed (way out-classed) by the TD1Cs and TD2 Yamaha race bikes, even the street RD350s in race trim. I could only pine and wish. I almost had a CB300 "Dream" that many amateurs were racing at the time but my father stopped me, saying "get an education first, then go racing". Well that didn't work well - all I did was some track days on a much-modified Gixxer K1 which was tremendous fun but way too little, far too late. I had the privilege of riding a 'friend's' Ariel Square 4 in the early 70s in Rhodesia. That was interesting if a little boring, very smooth and quiet though. Great memories.

But I also envied the RD250s and later the YPVS 350s (RZ350s in North America) but insurance companies refused to ensure you on an RZ350 in Canada!!😢 Yes, agreed that virtually? all the modern 250s are boring, maybe because there's no more 250 racing class any more, so no advertising and less marketing - at least in USA and western Europe. @alant383 6 днів тому

True nuff. I got spoiled with fuel injection when I started playing with Power Commander piggy back EFI fuel modules and how much easier they are, to simply connect up a few wires (plug and play) to totally change the mixture and fueling through the rev range on a laptop or even cell phone now, plus easy setup of a quick shifter which I love on any bike. This was on my 2001 GSXR 1000 track bike which I dearly loved. EFI is just so much more responsive. I never understood the intricacies of all the fuel jetting to tune up on exhaust and intake changes.
